Norway-based renewable energy developer Greenstat ASA has launched the construction of a 20-MW green hydrogen production plant in the Rogaland count of Western Norway.

Greenstat expects the facility to be able to produce up to eight tonnes of green hydrogen daily, the company said on Thursday. The project is being executed through its subsidiary Agder Hydrogen Hub AS.

The construction of the hydrogen manufacturing facility at Fiska will take about two years. Once the plant is commissioned, its output will be made available for use as maritime fuel for traffic along the Norwegian coast and in the entire North Sea basin and for application in the heavy transport industry. The first hydrogen is expected to be made by the end of 2026.

Aragon will assist Greenstat's internal project team with preparing the final design of the hydrogen plant and selecting suppliers of equipment and services.

Greenstat, majority-owned by French energy group La Francaise de l’Energie (EPA:FDE) since March, will build the plant as the first phase of a larger industrial project in Kristiansand that will see the site’s capacity grow by an additional 40 MW. Work on the scheme’s second phase is underway, the Bergen-based firm said.
