NTPC plans 50-MW solar power station in Madhya Pradesh - report

(SeeNews) – Dec 14, 2011 – India's National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (BOM:532555), or NTPC, is planning to establish its biggest solar power complex, with a capacity of 50 MW, in the state of Madhya Pradesh, the Times of India said today.
NTPC's executive director Rama Rao told the newspaper that the commissioning of the plant, to cost INR 7 billion (USD 130.5m/EUR 100.1m), is expected within three years. He also said the site for the facility had already been selected in Rajgarh district.
The state government and the company are to sign a power purchase agreement (PPA) soon.
The 50-MW project is undertaken amid efforts to combat acute power shortages in Madhya Pradesh, with the gap between demand and supply in the state hovering around 2,000 MW.
Meanwhile, NTPC is developing solar power stations with capacity of 5 MW, 10 MW and 15 MW across different areas of the country, such as Orissa, Himachal Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh.
