NV Energy asks Nevada PUC to clear PPAs for 100 MW of solar

US utility NV Energy has filed a request with the Public Utilities Commission (PUC) of Nevada to approve three new long-term solar power purchase agreements (PPAs) for a total of 100 MW.

The contracts are tied to three new solar projects that will be built in the state, including Northern Nevada’s largest solar array with a capacity of 50 MW, the company said in a statement on Tuesday.

The so-called Turquoise Nevada solar project of 50 MW will be built in the Reno Technology Park in Washoe County. It is a venture of Estuary Capital Advisors and Sumitomo Corporation of Americas that is seen to be completed by the end of 2020. If approved, the plant will get a 25-year PPA with NV Energy.

The other two projects are the Techren Solar 3 and 4 schemes, each of 25 MW, in Southern and Northern Nevada, respectively. Both plants are expected to enter into service by September 1, 2020, if approved. They will be adjacent to the 300-MW Techren Solar 1 and 2 projects, currently in development in Boulder City's Eldorado Valley.
