US marine robotics company Ocean Infinity has wrapped up the survey to identify sub-surface boulders across a 540-km terrain designated for the 1.5-GW Baltica 2 offshore wind project off the Polish coast in the Baltic Sea.

The survey will support the project installation campaign for wind turbines and offshore substation locations for the scheme developed by Polish utility PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna SA (WSE:PGE) and Denmark’s Ørsted A/S (CPH:ORSTED).

Ocean Infinity completed the job using its remote data collection system, including multi-beam echo sounder (MBES) and 3D multi-channel ultra-high resolution seismic (3D-UHRS) equipment deployed from its Ocean Infinity Armada lean crewed vessel.

Baltica 2 will be equipped with 14-MW Siemens Gamesa wind turbines. The wind park is expected to start operations in 2027, according to an earlier statement.

PGE and Ørsted are also partnering on Baltica 3, while PGE alone is separately developing Baltica 1. The Polish firm received permits to set up three offshore wind farms with a total capacity of 3.45 GW in the Baltic Sea back in 2012. In addition, in August 2023, the two partners were granted additional acreage for a planned 210-MW Baltica 2+.
