UK offshore equipment and services business OEG Energy Group Limited announced on Friday that its renewables unit has teamed up with Sojitz Machinery Corp (SOMAC) to provide services for offshore wind projects in Japan.

Under a newly signed memorandum of understanding (MoU), OEG Renewables and SOMAC will collaborate on the delivery of pre-construction, operations and maintenance (O&M) and vessel services in Japan. The partnership combines OEGR's experience in delivering offshore energy solutions and SOMAC’s local capabilities and resources.

OEG noted that in the coming years, Japan plans to add 3.5 GW of installed capacity to the current 259.5 MW of offshore wind power it has. In all, the country is targeting 10 GW by 2030 and up to 35 GW-40 GW by 2040, including from floating wind.
