O&L Nexentury to build 15 MW floating solar park in Germany Floating solar power on Philippsee, Germany

Munich-based solar developer O&L Nexentury GmbH said on Wednesday that it will build a 15 MW floating photovoltaic (FPV) plant on the Philippsee gravel lake in western Germany.

As part of the project, a total of 27,160 solar modules will be installed on a floating substructure. The facility will cover about 15% of the lake surface. The gravel pit is used by local company Philipp & Co KG to extract sand and gravel.

O&L Nexentury, which is part of Namibia-headquartered diversified group Ohlthaver & List, plans to kick off the construction works in the third quarter of 2024. The facility is expected to be operational by the end of the year.

The solar park is estimated to produce 16 GWh of green electricity annually which will be used to power the adjacent gravel plant. Part of it will also be fed into the grid.

The project is being conducted in co-operation with Philipp & Co, Ohlthaver & List’s European arm O&L Europe SE, the German federal state of Baden-Wuerttemberg, and DKB as the financing bank.
