Oman is planning to build hydrogen pipelines across the country to support the Sultanate's ambitious green hydrogen goals, a top official in state-owned company Hydrom said this week.

The network is planned to include 2,000 km (1,243 miles) of pipelines which will initially supply green hydrogen to three industrial zones -- Duqm, Al-Jazir and Salalah, Hydrom's planning manager Hafsa Al-Subhi said as cited by local media. The initial phase envisages connecting Duqm and Al-Jazir with Salalah in the south joining later. In the final phase by 2050, the network should reach the capital Muscat in the north.

The planned network should serve the Sultanate's strategy under which it aims to produce between 1 million and 1.25 million tonnes of green hydrogen annually by 2030 which will be partly used to meet demand in the local market. In June, OQ Gas Networks (OQGN), the sole operator of the gas transportation system in Oman, joined forces with Hydrom to explore the development of a green hydrogen network infrastructure in the country.
