The municipal council in Bruck an der Leitha, in eastern Austria, has approved a 200-MW electrolysis project of energy giant OMV AG (VIE:OMV), the regional branch of the Austrian Green Party said on Tuesday.

For the project, 8 hectares of green land were rezoned into a special construction area. The plant, to be located in the town of Wilfleinsdorf in Lower Austria state, will use electricity from renewable energy sources such as wind farms, hydropower and biomass facilities.

To implement the project, OMV has entered into a land mobilisation contract for 20 years. The annual payment is EUR 360,000 (USD 397,800).

“Green hydrogen is crucial to protecting Austria's economic location. With this decision, we are implementing the national hydrogen strategy in Bruck,” Green Club Chairwoman Helga Krismer and Green Municipal Councilor Roman Kral commented.
