US battery energy storage developer and independent power producer (IPP) On.Energy has taken possession of a portfolio of battery energy storage systems (BESS) in California with a combined capacity of 480 MWh.

The bundle consists of nine utility-scale projects, On.Energy said in a LinkedIn post on Tuesday. Financial details about the transaction were not available.

Described by the company as “utility-scale distributed generation projects,” the schemes are located across the southern and coastal regions of California, and will enable On.Energy to enhance its foothold in the local renewable energy market. The company plans to start development works immediately with the aim of launching commercial operations at the sites as early as the last quarter of 2026.

Some of the projects already have off-take arrangements in place, On.Energy said.

Miami, Florida-based On.Energy currently owns 80 MWh of energy storage facilities in operation and is building an additional 400 MWh. The company is also working on the development of 3 GWh of energy storage projects.
