Ontario Lottery buys green energy for Woodbine racetrack from Bullfrog

(ADPnews) - Jan 21, 2011 - The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp (OLG) said yesterday it had agreed to purchase from Canadian wind and hydropower producer Bullfrog Power renewable energy for its Woodbine racetrack as part of OLG's green strategy.

The lottery operator aims to reach by 2014 a 90% share of renewable power in its total energy consumption.

The Woodbine unit consumes 11.6 GWh per year. Now, Bullfrog will annually inject 35 GWh of green power into the local grid to match the power consumption of eight OLG facilities. Since February 2010, OGL's Casino Sault Ste Marie and the company's slots at Georgian Downs, the Mohawk racetrack, the Hanover raceway and Clinton raceway have all switched to green power.
