OptiPower, a division of South African engineering and mining contractor Murray & Roberts Holdings Ltd (JSE:MUR), has been awarded a contract to build a 100-MWp solar photovoltaic plant in South Africa alongside its Spanish joint venture (JV) partner.

OptiPower and Spanish power and water sector company Coxabengoa, as 50/50 partners, will construct the solar farm and other related infrastructure in the North West Province for a South African mining company, Murray & Roberts said in a JSE stock market filing on Wednesday.

The name of the mining company has not been disclosed.

The contract is valued at around ZAR 1.2 billion (USD 66.7m/EUR 59.9m). The scope of work includes the construction and installation of free issue solar panels, trackers, inverters and the procurement, construction and installation of main transformers, and the associated infrastructure for substations and overhead power lines, Murray & Roberts said.
