Oriana Energy, a partnership between US firms Sonnedix Group and Yarotek, has started energising and synchronising a 45-MW solar plant to Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority’s (PREPA) transmission grid.

Oriana invested more than USD 160 million (EUR 145.4m) in the solar farm. Greece-based company Metka-Egn built the facility in Isabela municipality and it is also in charge of the commissioning and operation..

Touted as the largest photovoltaic (PV) power plant in the Caribbean, the facility is expected to generate over 125,000 MWh annually. Sonnedix has one other solar park in Puerto Rico, of 15.5 MW, which became operational in July 2015.

Sonnedix has added to its portfolio some 100 MW of PV capacity across Italy, Chile and South Africa in recent months.
