OST Energy NA today said it will act as Owner's Engineer for a 37-MW solar project in Jamaica, the island nation's largest to date.

The engineering consultancy has been appointed by Eight Rivers Energy Co (EREC) and will support the developer during the development, construction and commissioning phases of the project, which is due to be completed in December 2018.

The EREC project is being delivered by France's Neoen and its partners MPC, Ferrostaal and Rekamniar Frontier Ventures, OST said.

According to Daniel Farmer, OST Energy director of Americas, the Caribbean markets, and Jamaica in particular, offer large potential for clean energy development in the coming years. "With the capital costs of solar continuing to fall, opportunities for building multi-megawatt utility scale projects that deliver consistent returns, even without tariff support, are increasing," Farmer said.
