Finnish steel maker Outokumpu (HEL:OUT1V) said today it has decided to increase its stake in an operational 45-MW onshore wind farm of power company Rajakiiri Oy, located near its steel plant in Tornio.

Following the deal, Outokumpu will own 19.9% of the facility, dubbed Puuska 2, corresponding to nearly 9 MW. The plant has an estimated 16 years of production life ahead of it, according to a statement.

The site was launched in 2010 and was expanded with the addition of 16.5 MW in 2015. It has an annual production of about 130,000 MWh, an amount enough to cover the needs of around 8,500 homes.

“Further investment in Rajakiiri provides us better access to the windmills close to our operations [and] will open a long-term strategic access to upcoming Rajakiiri plans for further on-shore and off-shore investments,” said Tony Lindström, general manager of the steel maker’s energy unit Outokumpu EvoEnergy.
