Over 50 wind projects in Asturias frozen on energy reform in Spain - report

Aug 27, 2013 - Spain's power sector reform is seen to freeze more than 50 wind projects in Asturias, in the northern part of the country, local media quoted sources from Asturias' wind power association.

The measures of the central government in Spain, approved in July and targeting to curb a large power tariff deficit of EUR 26 billion (USD 34.681bn), are threatening EUR 900 million investment in the northern autonomous region. Currently, the region has 512 MW installed capacity, faraway from the projected nearly 1,500 MW. Asturias has 18 wind farms in operation, one under construction, and the mentioned more than 50 wind parks in different stages of development.

The same sources forecast that the only plant to start work is that of Acciona (MCE:ANA), currently under construction in Villanueva de Oscos, which will be used to test a new wind turbine.
