Over 80 investors signal interest in Algeria's 1 GW solar project - report

The call for tenders for the deployment of 1 GWp of solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity in Algeria has drawn the interest of more than 80 local and international developers, the country's Minister of Energy Transition and Renewable Energy, Benattou Ziane, told state-owned Algeria Press Service on Sunday.

The developers intend to invest in the sector and have requested to review the terms and conditions for the "Solar 1,000 project", the minister said.

The North African country opened the call for tenders at the end of December, targeting the allocation of capacity in lots of between 50 MW and 300 MW. Each developer is able to compete for one or more batches of 300 MW in total and the winners will be awarded a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA). As many as 11 sites were selected where the solar plants will be built.

In the interview with the news agency, Ziane noted that the experts who have worked on the conditions for the tenders have removed all technology and financing obstacles in order to enable the interested developers to submit their bids. The offers can be submitted by the end of April.
