The government of Pakistan seeks to award 600 MWp of solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity in Punjab province through a recently launched tender that will be open for submissions by the start of May.

The competitive round was initiated by the Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB) in February and had an initial deadline of April 17. The government agency announced on its website that the deadline has been extended, with proposals to be accepted by May 8,

The targeted PV capacity is planned to be deployed in the districts of Kot Addu and Muzaffargargh. The successful candidates in the Request for Proposals (RFP) will be tasked with installing the plants on a build, own, and operate transfer (BOOT) basis via 25-year concessions. Winning bids will be considered those with the lowest offered tariff.

Pakistan aims to make renewables account for 60% of its total power mix by 2030. The goal was initially set at 30% and revised early in 2022. According to the 2022 statistics by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the country had 12,888 MW of installed renewable power generation capacity at the end of 2021, of which 1,083 MW of solar parks.
