The solar system will will include photovoltaic (PV) panel arrays, PV film arrays, thermal water heaters and external light fittings. Investment in the project is seen to reach KWD 5 million (USD 17.9m/EUR 13.8m), with completion expected by June 2012.

The solar facility will be installed in the College of Basic Education campus in Ardiyah, which consists of 32 buildings with a total open roof space of 40,000 sq m (430,600 sq ft). The system is to cut by 20% of the college's utility electricity consumption and offset two tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions a year, according to architectural consultancy PACE.
