Pattern Energy Group LP announced on Tuesday it has inked a 30-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Hydro-Quebec for the 150-MW Broughton Wind project in Quebec.

Earlier this year, Broughton Wind was selected among the winners in a tender call launched by the Canadian utility.

Pattern Energy has developed the particular project in a 50/50 joint venture with a coalition of community and First Nations partners, namely the MRC des Appalaches, MRC de l’ Erable, Conseil des Abenakis d’Odanak, and Conseil des Abenakis de Wolinak.

The CAD-500-million (USD 363.5m/EUR 339.3m) project is located in the municipalities of Saint-Pierre-de-Broughton, Sacre-Coeur-de-Jesus and Thetford Mines, about 40 miles south of Quebec City. It will create up to 200 jobs during construction and 10 full-time positions once fully completed.

Construction is seen to start in 2028 and the wind farm should become operational in 2029, at which point the facility will be generating enough electricity to power over 25,000 homes a year.

Presently, Pattern Energy operates 1,980 MW of installed capacity in Canada. Broughton Wind is expected to double the company’s capacity in Quebec.
