Cambridge, UK-based pay-as-you-go solar provider Azuri Technologies Ltd has partnered with consumer goods company Unilever Kenya to "bring solar home solutions to millions more off-grid homes across Kenya."

Azuri's Quad solar home lighting system will be co-branded with Unilever's (LON:ULVR) Sunlight brand of washing powder and offered through Unilever's distribution network of some 67,000 smallholder traders in Kenya, Azuri said on Thursday. The Quad solar home lighting system includes a 10-W solar panel, four LED lights, USB port and connectors for mobile phone charging, rechargeable radio and rechargeable torch. It uses Azuri's HomeSmart technology that monitors weather conditions and customer usage patterns to adjust output to provide a full night's power.

The Unilever distribution network will complement Azuri's existing partners in the country, Raj Ushanga House and Mobicom.

The announcement was made as part of the visit of UK prime minister Theresa May and UK business leaders, among whom Azuri chief executive Simon Bransfield-Garth, to Kenya.
