Argentine cement and energy group PCR SA and long steel producer ArcelorMittal Acindar have inaugurated their 112.5-MW San Luis Norte wind farm at a site in Argentina’s San Luis province, PCR said on Thursday.

Both companies invested in this project, raising the wind farm for USD 210 million (EUR 193.3m) to power Acindar’s operations.

San Luis Norte features 25 Vestas wind turbines arranged on a 1,500-hectare site in Toro Negro. It is the first wind farm in San Luis province, and will also be the first hybrid power facility in Argentina once a solar farm is added at the site.

Construction of the 18-MW solar plant within the San Luis Norte wind farm is due to commence shortly, Martin Brandi, CEO of PCR, said in a video posted on ArcelorMittal Acindar’s LinkedIn page.

Once the wind and solar resources are combined, the 130.5-MW hybrid complex will produce enough electricity to supply 210,000 homes per year, according to PCR.

ArcelorMittal Acindar is part of steel making multinational ArcelorMittal SA (AMS:MT).
