Sep 19, 2024 16:25 CESTPeru's wind and solar energy output decreased 7.2% year-on-year to 69 GWh in the first month of 2016, the energy ministry said in a press release on Wednesday.
Total power generation reached 4,352 GWh, an 8.8% increase from a year earlier. Hydropower went up 3.4% to 2,290 GWh, while thermal sources generation rose 16.5% to 1,992 GWh.
In the 12 months of 2015, the production expanded by 6% to 48,066 GWh, with thermal and hydro electricity representing 49.8% and 48.5%, respectively, and a 1.73% share for wind and solar energy. The overall effective capacity increased 10% versus 2014, to 11,296 MW.
The power sector's output grew 6.5% on average over the last 10 years, according to a report published by the ministry last month. Until the end of 2015, the country installed 240 MW of wind, 96 MW of solar and 80 MW of biomass and biogas capacity.
