Brazil's Piaui govt clears operations for 300-MW wind park
Sep 12, 2024 9:29 CESTBrazilian state-run oil and gas company Petrobras (BVMF:PETR4) has inked a protocol of intentions with the Rio de Janeiro state government to study the feasibility of an offshore wind power pilot project.
The agreement allows Petrobras to test and assess new technologies as well as identify bottlenecks and technical issues, thus defining elements to increase competitiveness and the chief challenges to be overcome, the oil and gas group announced on Tuesday.
“These studies will enable Petrobras to analyze future offshore wind opportunities under analysis at the National Congress after the sector is regulated," stated Engineering and Technology Director, Carlos Travassos.
The statement did not disclose the size of the future investment and the potential offshore wind power development capacity.
Petrobras noted this agreement is combined with the protocol of intentions for the joint evaluation of a carbon dioxide (CO2) capturing and storage hub in the northern region of Rio de Janeiro.
