Infrastructure investor PFO Africa has signed a concession agreement and power off-take deal with the government of Cote d’Ivoire for a 52-MWp solar project in the West African country.

The contracts will enable PFO Africa’s subsidiary PFO Energies to design, finance, build and operate the photovoltaic (PV) park, the parent company said on Thursday. It estimates the total required investment at some XOF 39.5 billion (USD 65.2m/EUR 60.2m)

The proposed Ferke solar project is set to create the largest PV complex in Cote d’Ivoire, according to PFO Africa. To be located in the town of Sokhoro, in the northwestern region of Tchologo, the plant is expected to generate 90 GWh of electricity annually which will be enough to supply more than 370,000 local residents.

Construction works on the project are scheduled to commence in the second half of this year and take about 14 months. Once the complex is commissioned, its power purchase agreement (PPA) will run for 25 years.

Cote d’Ivoire aims to achieve a 45% renewable energy share by 2030. The country's Energy Ministry recently announced contracts that will enable the deployment of 600 MW of solar PV capacity with targeted commissioning between 2025 and 2026.
