Qair inks 180-GWh wind, solar PPA with Freudenberg unit in Poland
Sep 03, 2024 15:11 CESTPolish utility PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna SA (WSE:PGE) and Denmark’s Ørsted A/S (CPH:ORSTED) have signed a lease agreement for the future T5 terminal in the port of Gdansk for their 1.5-GW Baltica 2 offshore wind project in the Polish part of the Baltic Sea.
The terminal, currently in advanced stages of construction preparation, will be used for the storage, pre-assembly and offshore installation of turbine components for Baltica 2. PGE and Ørsted aim to deliver the project, which will use 14-MW Siemens Gamesa wind turbines, by the end of 2027. It will be followed by Baltica 3 of 1 GW and the two will form Baltica Offshore Wind Farm.
The lease agreement is with Istrana, a special purpose company owned 85% by the governmental Polish Development Fund and 15% by Baltic Hub. The lease will extend from the fourth quarter of 2026 through the end of 2028.
“The terminal has been designed in accordance with the latest industry standards and taking into account technological development trends in the offshore wind energy sector. This will create one of the most important and modern installation terminals in the Baltic Sea. The marshalling port in Gdansk is a great opportunity for the development of the domestic supply chain for offshore wind energy in the Baltic Sea,” said Dariusz Marzec, president of the management board of PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna.
