Deutsche Windtechnik wins turbines maintenance contract in Sweden
Sep 19, 2024 14:55 CESTPlug Power Inc (NASDAQ:PLUG), the US company establishing an end-to-end green hydrogen ecosystem, announced today the signing of contracts to supply several 5-MW electrolyser systems for hard-to-decarbonise industries in Europe.
The first of the containerised PEM electrolysis systems will be delivered to Ardagh Glass Limmared AB, a Swedish glass packaging producer that supplies the most popular spirits company in the country. Ardagh will rely on the electrolysers, powered by hydroelectric plants, to produce 2.1 tonnes of green hydrogen per day and thereby replace a portion of the natural gas it uses now. The project should be completed this year.

The second deal is with Hydro Havrand, a new unit of aluminum giant Norsk Hydro ASA, which is establishing a closed-loop circular economy for its aluminum recycling plant in Hoyanger, Norway. In this case, too, the output of the 5-MW electrolyser system will displace natural gas used in the plant’s burner. Project delivery is expected by June 2024.
The third customer, namely APEX Group, has ordered two 5-MW electrolyser modules with the capacity to produce 4.2 tonnes per day. The containers will be deployed in Bremen, Germany, at a power plant run by public utility company SWB. The hydrogen production will be used mainly for the decarbonisation of ArcelorMittal’s local blast furnaces, Plug said.
