Poland's FRS Windcat building vessels to service offshore wind
Nov 14, 2024 16:52 CESTThe Polish government adopted on Wednesday an amendment to the offshore wind act stipulating differentiating the maximum price in offshore auctions based on the location of the project area.
The draft prepared by the Ministry of Climate and Environment envisages that the minister responsible for climate matters may set different maximum prices for the Phase II offshore auctions for areas designated for the construction of offshore wind farms, taking into account their geophysical conditions or distance from the shore, the ministry said in a publication.
Currently, a single price is set for the purchase of energy from offshore wind farms for all areas and auctions. In October, the ministry raised it for the the second phase of support to PLN 512.32 (USD 125.39/EUR 117.97) per 1 MWh from PLN 471.83, local media reported then quoting environment minister Paulina Hennig-Kloska.
The amendment takes into account that the diverse characteristics of the areas tendered for the different offshore projects determine the construction costs and later the operation of these facilities, the ministry said.
The revision of the act will enable a more accurate consideration of the characteristics of individual projects or groups of projects and will minimize costs for end users.
Poland's environment ministry said last week that in dialogue with the European Commission, it has increased the capacity volume of the auctions for wind energy in Polish waters to 12 GW from 5 GW for the 2025-2031 period. For auctions in 2025 and 2027, it is set at 4 GW each, while for 2029 and 2031, it is 2 GW.
