Poland's environment ministry said today that in dialogue with the European Commission, it has increased the capacity volume of the auctions for offshore wind energy to 12 GW from 5 GW for the 2025-2031 period.

The volume for the 2025 auctions and the 2027 auctions is set at 4 GW each, while for each of 2029 and 2031, it is 2 GW.

Thus, the EC position will allow Poland's energy regulator URE to hold an offshore auction in 2025 for a maximum total installed capacity of 4 GW, provided that the budget for the increase in volume does not exceed the 20% threshold referred to in the EC regulations, the ministry noted.

At the same time, the increase in capacity volumes in the offshore auctions for 2027, 2029 and 2031, will be notified taking into account the changes provided for in the 2022 Climate, Energy and Environmental Aid Guidelines (CEEAG).

The ministry pointed out that offshore wind energy is a pillar of Poland's green transformation and it has made it its priority to ensure the most favourable conditions for the development of the sector in line with EU goals and requirements.
