Polish offshore services provider FRS Windcat Polska said it is building two crew transfer vessels (CTV) to service Polish offshore wind projects.

The ships are being build at the Alu International Shipyard in Gdansk, FRS Windcat said in a social media post last week, adding that their hulls were almost ready. The vessels themselves, Windcat61 and the Windcat62, will be ready for crew and materials transfers in the second half of 2025.

Thanks to the optimised hull shape, increased width to 8.8m and larger freeboard the model is designed for performance and comfort, the company added. Moreover, focus on the hull shape and efficient propulsion system using adjustable pitch propellers allows it to reduce fuel discharge.

The company also notes on its website that hydrogen is integrated into all its newly built vessels to reduce clients’ CO2 emissions.

FRS Windcat Polska was established to service the upcoming Polish offshore wind energy industry. It is a joint venture of Germany-based FRS Offshore GmbH & Co. KG and Windcat Workboats, a provider of CTVs.

The first wave of Polish offshore wind projects is in a late stage of development and pre-construction. The first projects are expected to be operational in 2026 at the earliest. Poland has set a target of 5.9 GW of installed offshore capacity by 2030 and 8 GW-11 GW in aggregate by 2040.
