Turkish renewables company Polat Enerji is set to incorporate an energy storage system at its 288.1-MW Soma RES wind farm in Turkey in the country’s first wind-plus-storage hybridisation project.

Polat Enerji said that it has signed an agreement with Ankara-based energy solutions provider Partner EGS to procure a 4-MW/4-MWh energy storage system for the project. Under the agreement, Partner EGS will integrate its software and engineering solution into the hardware supplied by China’s Huawei.

Partner EGS is the authorised distributor of Huawei’s renewable energy equipment.

Soma RES is Turkey’s largest wind farm. The addition of storage will contribute to grid flexibility and reduce the cost of imbalance, Polat Enerji said.
