Warsaw-based perovskite solar cell firm Saule Technologies and its two Polish partners last week signed a strategic agreement to cooperate on the commercialisation and further development of perovskite cells, with plans to develop and launch new products using these cells this year.

The contemplated products will target the existing building sector and buildings under construction, including products aimed at individual customers.

The agreement is between renewable systems provider Columbus Energy SA, Saule Technologies and the Polish branch of French manufacturer of housing and building automation solutions Somfy SA (EPA:SO)

“We are planning to create several new products based on perovskite cells, including at least three from the BAPV [building applied photovoltaics], B2B [business-to-business] utility-scale and B2C [business-to-consumer] categories,” said Piotr Krych, management board representative at Saule SA.

“Cooperation with Somfy is yet another step on our way to open up to new markets, where perovskite cells will be used in the IoT sector to digitalise the B2B utility-scale sector - in factories, warehouses, etc. - and the B2C sector,” added Artur Kupczunas, vice-president of the management board, Saule SA.

The agreement follows understanding between the companies from August 2021, when Saule Technologies’ sun blinds with perovskite solar cells were launched.

In May 2021, Saule Technologies opened a perovskite PV cells plant with a pilot line targeted at the IoT sector.
