Poland's FRS Windcat building vessels to service offshore wind
Nov 14, 2024 16:52 CESTPolska Grupa Biogazowa (PGB), part of French multi-energy group TotalEnergies SE (EPA:TTE), has opened its 20th biogas plant in Poland, making it the owner and operator of a total of 21 MW of biogas capacity.
The facility in Poland's northeast Warmian-Masurian province will produce 8.3 GWh of electricity and 8 GWh of heat annually, which will enable it to power 3,000 Polish households, PGB said in a social media post last week.
Another 50 projects are currently in advanced stages of development, with several dozen more in the planning phase, PGB said in September, adding that its goal is to increase production several times by 2030.
PGB investment director Tomasz Strzelecki pointed out that he hoped the promised support system for biomethane installations above 1 MW to come into force in the coming months because the rapid development of the biogas and biomethane sector is largely dependent on the legal and financial conditions.
PGB's core activity is the production of electricity and heat from biogas and ultimately biomethane, injected into the gas network. According to Strzelecki, utilizing biogas by producing biomethane is more efficient and their investment plans are primarily in this direction.
The company started operations in 2007 and was acquired in 2023, by TotalEnergies, a major producer of biomethane in France and a leader in biogas production on the European market.
