Nordex to supply 6.8-MW turbines for 68-MW German wind project
Sep 18, 2024 9:08 CESTGerman sports car maker Porsche AG (ETR:P911) has deployed a 5-MW/10-MWh stationary energy storage system at its plant in Leipzig, Germany that is made up of used Taycan batteries from preseries and works vehicles.
“The project exemplifies how we can use resources sustainably and combine this commitment with business efficiency,” Albrecht Reimold, member of the executive board for production and logistics at Porsche, said in an announcement this week.
Alwin Schmid, head of electrical engineering at the company, explained that the project combines a number of goals, including peak load capping, optimisation of self-consumption and simultaneous participation in the energy market.
The storage system consists of 4,400 individual battery modules in four battery containers. The system, including the battery blocks, is designed for a lifespan of more than 10 years, with the option to replace individual battery modules if required. Some of its electricity will come from the site’s own 9.4 MWp of solar arrays.
The company expects to get insights from the project to install similar systems at other Porsche locations in the future.
