Port of Rotterdam's biofuel throughput grows 24% Y/Y in 2012

Mar 13, 2013 - Port of Rotterdam said today it handled 5.9 million tonnes of biofuels in 2012, up by 24% on the year, mainly due to growth in the throughput of biodiesel.

Imports and exports of biodiesel rose to 2.1 million tonnes and 1.8 million tonnes, respectively, from both 1.2 million tonnes in 2011.

Imports came chiefly from Asia and Argentina, while the main exports were destined to Germany, Spain and the UK.

The throughput of ethanol dropped by 17% to 1.4 million tonnes, mainly due to lower imports from the USA.

The port processed a total of 600,000 tonnes of ethyl tertiary butyl ether (ETBE) in 2012, down by 8% year-on-year.
