Portugal solar power sector asks govt to revise tariffs cuts for micro generation

Jan 6, 2014 - Portuguese photovoltaic association APESF has asked the country's government to revise the announced cuts of tariffs for solar power generation by small producers.

According to APESF, the decision for the reduction has been taken without a deep reflection.

The council of ministers stated on December 26 that new small-scale photovoltaic (PV) plants will receive as of January 2014 tariffs of EUR 66 (USD 89.82) per MWh in the first eight years and EUR 145 per MWh in the seven years after that. The figures correspond to annual reductions of EUR 130 per MWh for the first period and EUR 20 per MWh for the second one. The new tariffs will not affect already operating plants.

The association pointed out that the new tariffs expand the period of return on investments for new projects and create uncertainty among the companies supplying and installing PV panels. The lack of consistency and information is threatening the performance of sector enterprises since there are no conditions to operate seriously, APESF added.
