Power cuts due to severe drought affect JinkoSolar's production in Sichuan

Chinese photovoltaics (PV) maker JinkoSolar Holding Co Ltd (NYSE:JKS) announced today that the production capacity of its manufacturing facilities in Sichuan is affected by province-wide power rationing measures.

The provincial government imposed these restrictions a week ago in an attempt to ease the power shortage in the region arising from the worst drought in 60 years. Sichuan relies heavily on hydropower to cover most of its electricity needs.

JinkoSolar said in a statement that it is actively monitoring the situation. Moreover, it has taken certain measures such as directing other factories to assume more production.

The company stressed that, at this point, it is unable to evaluate the extent to which its business operation and full-year financial performance will be impacted as the duration of the government-imposed measures cannot be foreseen.

JinkoSolar operates a total of 12 factories around the world with an integrated annual capacity of 40 GW for mono wafers, 40 GW for solar cells and 50 GW for solar modules.
