Vistra agrees USD 3.25bn buyout of zero-carbon energy unit
Sep 19, 2024 11:01 CESTThe power export cable for the 132-MW South Fork offshore wind project off Long Island in New York has been installed and undergone successful site acceptance testing, France-based Nexans SA (EPA:NEX) said on Tuesday.
The 110-km 138-kV high voltage alternating current (HVAC) subsea export cable will soon transmit electricity to Long Island, enabling green power supplies to more than 70,000 homes. The cable was made at Nexans’ production plant in Charleston, South Carolina, which the French manufacturer opened in 2021 to cover its commitment under a framework agreement covering two other projects of the same developer.
A joint venture of New England utility Eversource Energy (NYSE:ES) and Denmark’s Ørsted A/S (CPH:ORSTED) is behind South Fork, which is set to create New York state’s first offshore wind park. To be located 35 miles (56.3km) east of Montauk Point and 19 miles southeast of Block Island, Rhode Island, the complex is due to become operational at the end of this year.
