Swiss power producer and energy service provider Alpiq has decided to exit the rooftop photovoltaic (PV) business to focus on its core operations and has agreed to sell its 5.5-MWp portfolio of seven rooftop installations at home.

The acquirer is PS Panneaux Solaires SA, an operating company of Gefiswiss Energy Transition Fund. The financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.

The portfolio to be offloaded is located in the cantons of Fribourg, Solothurn and Vaud. The assets generate an average of 5.6 GWh of clean electricity per year.

With the agreed divestment, Alpiq will sharpen its focus on flexibility solutions to integrate renewable energies as well as on expanding energy storage facilities and producing winter electricity. It intends to refrain from planning, building and operating solar systems that are not close to its core operations, the company noted in a statement released today.
