Powerway gets 651-kW solar mounting order in Suriname

Sep 19, 2014 - Chinese solar mounting systems maker Powerway Renewable Energy Co Ltd said today it had won an order to install a 651-kW ground-mounted solar system in Suriname.

The solar array will utilise 127 sets of matrices, each distributed into 127 suburban signal base stations not covered by the national grid. The solar system will be their main energy provider during its 25-year lifespan.

Previously, the Chinese firm provided the mounting array for another project in the country with a capacity of 360-kW.

Suriname’s fast economic growth, especially in the mining industry, has significantly increased demand for electricity, Powerway explained in its statement. This, coupled with an unstable national grid, led to an electricity shortage. The smallest country in South America also has a high solar irradiation level, the company notes, which makes it a very favourable location for the development of the solar power generation business.
