Floating wind technology specialist Principle Power on Tuesday unveiled two new semisubmersible floating wind foundation designs, where the wind turbine is positioned on a column in the centre of the platform.

The company introduced two centre column platforms, the WindFloat TC (tubular, center column) and WindFloat FC (flat-panel, center column), adding to its existing perimeter column designs, the WindFloat T and WindFloat F.

Principle Power is expanding its product portfolio as wind turbines are getting larger and manufacturers are increasingly focused on standardisation.

“The outlook for floating wind is strong and as the market enters a ‘commercial’ era, wind turbine suppliers are now thinking about how to position their products for maximum standardisation across the floating pipeline. With this in mind, we’ve developed WindFloat centre column designs that are optimised for 15 MW+ turbines with stiffer towers,” said chief executive Julian Arrillaga Costa.

“Principle Power’s mission is to be able to offer cost-optimal and bankable solutions for any wind turbine at any location in the world,” added Aaron Smith, chief commercial officer and head of New Business and Innovation.

Last year, the company announced the launch of its flat panel platform, the WindFloat F.
