Prysmian installs cables for 800-MW Vineyard Wind offshore US

Prysmian SpA (BIT:PRY) has completed the cabling activities for the 800-MW Vineyard Wind 1 offshore wind project in the US, the Italian cable manufacturer said on Monday.

The company has finished installation and HV testing at the US’ first utility-scale offshore wind project. The milestone comes shortly after Vineyard Wind 1, a joint venture between Avandrid Renewables and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), erected the first of its 62 turbines.

Under a contract awarded in 2019, Prysmian was responsible for the design, manufacture, installation and commissioning of a high voltage alternating current (HVAC) cable system including two 220 kV three-core cables that will supply power to the mainland US grid. The company produced the 134 kilometres (83 miles) of submarine power cables in Pikkala, Finland and Arco Felice, Italy, and installed them using its Cable Enterprise and Ulisse cable laying vessels.
