Italian cable manufacturer Prysmian SpA (BIT:PRY) and UK-headquartered energy technology company TechnipFMC (NYSE:FTI) have teamed up to offer a “complete water column solution” for floating offshore wind, spanning technologies from the seabed to the ocean surface.

The collaboration agreement, announced today, will combine TechnipFMC’s system design expertise and integration capabilities in dynamic offshore applications with Prysmian’s experience in the production and installation of submarine power cables.

The new solution the companies plan to offer will include mooring and anchoring and both dynamic inter-array and export cable systems. They aim to deliver it through a fully integrated engineering, procurement, construction and installation (iEPCI) commercial model.

“The collaboration strengthens both companies’ position in this emerging market by providing an integrated solution that accelerates time to first power and reduces cost, while improving overall system reliability,” stated Doug Pferdehirt, chair and CEO at TechnipFMC.

The floating wind sector is preparing to deliver its first large-scale projects. The Green Volt project in the UK is on course to become the world’s largest floating offshore wind farm after recently securing a contract for difference (CfD).
