Permit applications for a 19.8-MW wind energy self-consumption project, spearheaded by Spanish clothing company Inditex (BME:ITX) in Spain’s north-western region of Galicia, are open for public consultation.

The public has been invited to submit comments on the company's application for consent, construction permit and the environmental impact assessment of its proposal to install three wind turbines at the outer harbour of the A Coruna Port, Galicia’s regional government posted on Friday in its official gazette.

The budget for the project is estimated at EUR 21.7 million (USD 23.5m), which includes EUR 17.5 million to build the wind farm and other expenses needed to expand the Inditex substation and set up an underground high-voltage line.

The chosen wind turbine brand is Siemens Gamesa. Three SG 6.6-MW units are expected to generate on average 52,368 MWh per year.

The project is to be completed in 12 months.

The wind farm will operate as a collective self-consumption scheme, meaning that it power several consumers in the vicinity, as well as the Inditex group’s base in the town of Arteixo.

Inditex, the group behind the fast fashion empire Zara, has been working on this project for several years. In April 2021, the company set up Inditex Renovables, the renewables business that is now handling the permitting for the wind farm.
