Iberdrola inaugurates 496-MW Saint-Brieuc wind farm offshore France
Sep 19, 2024 16:25 CESTThe Puerto Rico government approved on Sunday a new law that aims to streamline the processes related to the installation of small photovoltaic (PV) systems.
The new rules will ease the interconnection procedures with the Electrical Energy Authority (AEE), and thus will allow faster installation of solar systems for homes and businesses, senator Ramon Luis Nieves said.
Under the new law, AEE's net metering programme will be upgraded with the use of intelligent meters that can be read remotely. In addition, the government also plans to create a website where the interested parties can access and file the needed documentation.
Projects with less than 1 MW of capacity will also enjoy a speedy interconnection, the government noted.
Lastly, the bill also allows communities to join efforts to share access in solar energy projects, through the so-called community solar model, and it introduces to Puerto Rico the concept of microgrids.
