Iberdrola inaugurates 496-MW Saint-Brieuc wind farm offshore France
Sep 19, 2024 16:25 CESTThe Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority (PREPA) is seeking to contract 1 GW of renewable energy and 500 MW/2 GWh of energy storage capacity on the island.
On Monday, the power company released a request for proposals (RfP) with a submissions deadline of May 3. The successful proponents will get off-take contracts of up to 25 years for plants they will design, install, own, operate and service.
This is the first of six RfP tranches to be launched in Puerto Rico over a three-year period with the goal of procuring 3.75 GW of renewables and 1.5 GW of energy storage. These support PREPA's efforts to reach 100% renewable power by 2050.
The targeted capacity in the first call has to include 150 MW from virtual power plants (VPPs) combining distributed generation, storage and demand response resources, the document states. A kick-off presentation for interested parties is scheduled for March 3.
