Punitive tariffs on Chinese solar modules to hold back energy transition

(SeeNews) – May 29, 2013 - The anti-dumping duties, which the European Commission plans to impose on China-made solar panels, will harm Germany's energy turnaround, the Cologne Institute for Economic Research (IDW) said yesterday.

IDW said the duties could probably protect several companies from the severe competition of Chinese firms but will surely raise the prices of solar modules.

Thus, the entire energy turnaround will be held back, the institute added.

Most of the solar modules, installed on rooftops and on the ground in Germany are imported from China.

According to IDW, solar firms had better work on innovative technologies instead of relying on the state to protect them.
