A solar park of 1 MW has been commissioned in Armenia and is said to be the largest facility of its kind in the country, local media report.

The Talin-1 photovoltaic (PV) plant is situated in the town of Talin, Aragatsotn province. The project was implemented by Armenian investors with financing from the German-Armenian Fund and German government-owned development bank KfW. Local company Arpi Solar was responsible for the design and construction of the facility.

The project, the cost of which is estimated at USD 1 million (EUR 862,000), is the first phase of an initiative aimed at installing 10 MW of PV capacity.

In May Armenia launched a 55-MW solar tender and pre-qualified 10 companies for its development under a government investment strategy for the addition of up to 110 MW of PV capacity at six locations. The first solar plant in the country, with a capacity of 500 kW, was brought online in September.
