World set to install 593 GW of new solar in 2024 - Ember
Sep 19, 2024 13:28 CEST(SeeNews) – Nov 6, 2012 – The amount of electricity produced by photovoltaic (PV) sources in Germany increased by 50% year-on-year in the first nine months of 2012, the Association of Energy and Water Industries (BDEW) said yesterday.
The combined solar electricity production rose to 24.9 billion kWh between January and September 2012 from 16.5 billion kWh in the same period in 2011.
With an installed capacity of 2.9 billion kWh, September 2012 exceeded each month in the previous year.
The record month for installations remains May 2012 with a total new capacity of 4 billion kWh.
Wind energy sources generated a total of 35 billion KWh of electricity between January and September 2012. This only represented a slight increase from the 32.5 billion kWh in the same period in 2011.
Wind energy still remains the most important renewable energy source, with a 8.6% contribution to Germany’s total electricity demand in the first nine months of 2012.
Solar energy in this aspect ranks second with a 6.1% share in the same period, while biomass stayed third with a 5.8% proportion.
According to preliminary calculations, the alternative energy sources together covered overall around 26% of German electricity demand in the first three quarters of 2012.
