Q Energy eyes 2025 commissioning of 74-MW French floating PV park

European renewables developer Q Energy has completed 30% of the construction of its 74.3-MW floating solar farm located on a former quarry in northeastern France and expects to power it up next year.

The company announced that the project’s provisional commissioning is scheduled for the first quarter of 2025. The update was made in a LinkedIn post on Friday following an on-site visit with town council representatives.

Touted as the biggest floating photovoltaic (PV) project in Europe to date, the Les Ilots Blandin plant will be able to generate enough electricity to meet the demand of 37,000 people annually. The complex being built in France’s Haute-Marne region will consist of 134,649 solar modules attached to floats and forming six islands spread over 127 hectares (313.8 acres) of flooded gravel pits that are no longer used.

Q Energy’s French team launched the project in 2019. The project was among the winners in the French government’s PPE2 tender in August 2022.
