Solidcore to build 23 MW solar plant at gold mine in Kazakhstan
Sep 19, 2024 13:41 CESTJul 2, 2014 - Renewable energy firm Qatar Solar Energy (QSE) on Tuesday unveiled a deal to buy silicon from Kazakhstan’s energy firm Kazatomprom as part of its plan to ramp up solar module production capacity near Doha to 2.5 GW.
The contract was signed for 10 years, allowing QSE to buy the photovoltaic (PV) grade silicon at an “extremely competitive” fixed price, the Qatari firm said on Tuesday. The deal follows a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between QSE and Kazatomprom’s unit Astana Solar from June.
The two partners have also agreed to expand their partnership through knowledge sharing and training.
QSE makes PV components designed for sun-belt regions and is also engaged in research, technology development and solar project development. The company's solar production capacity currently stands at 300 MW.
